Oxfordshire town to get £100,000 makeover

Oxfordshire town to get £100,000 makeover
An Oxfordshire town is set to get a £100,000 makeover which will be funded by the area's county council.

Residents and traders in Witney have long been campaigning for an upgrade for their beloved town and now their wish has been granted. Work will begin to replace broken or missing metal railings and security bollards on Church Green.

Market Square and Corn Street will be resurfaced to provide smoother driving conditions for motorists using the town's roads. Safety measures, such as zebra crossings, are to be installed on Oxford Hill following an accident last year.

David Harvey, councillor for Witney West, told The Oxford Times: "It is to the benefit not just of people who live and work in Witney but also those people from all over Oxfordshire and elsewhere who come here."

Witney is a traditional market town with a population of 25,000 and it is hoped that the revamp will help bring more visitors to the area.
