A set of security bollards in the New England area of Peterborough are causing concern for a local resident.
The barriers at Francis Garden prevent emergency services using the street as a cut through to reach residents on the nearby Bluebell Avenue, and this has prompted Paul Archer to raise his concerns with the local authorities.
A report by the Peterborough Evening Telegraph revealed that many 999 response calls were unaware that the bollards, which have been in the area for the past decade, were in place and add extra time on to an emergency job.
NHS statistics have stated that 75 per cent of immediately life threatening 999 calls would reach its destination in eight minutes.
Mr Archer told the source: "Coming down here rather than going straight to the Bluebell Estate will add about five minutes to their response times, so I'm just worried that this is going to happen when the response time is the difference between life or death."
