Watching the security fencing come down at the unveiling of a new play area at an Alvechurch school signalled a major achievement for a group of hard-working parents.

Members of the PTA at Crown Meadow First School and Nursery spent a year raising enough money to be able to build an adventure play area. They managed to generate £5,000 before landing a lottery grant of £10,000.

Money for the equipment was raised through a number of events including Christmas and summer fairs as well as discos.

Helen Fieldhouse, chair of the PTA, told the Redditch Standard: "We asked the children what they wanted and they said more play equipment. They had loads at their old school but there was nothing when they moved to the new site."

Children at Crown Meadow were not the only ones celebrating the launch of a new play area as a facility in Bishop Stortford announced it was to get a £50,000 makeover after donations by residents, the council and local businesses.
