High security fencing will be installed around a grade II-listed building in Bradford, West Yorkshire, after the council approved plans.

The 2.4-metre structure will be placed around the boundary of the building on Bowling Old Lane and will have five access gates separating the fencing.

The council has stated that the application was put forward by the former Solaglass Bradford and aims to protect one of the city's most treasured buildings.

It is hoped that by fencing off the structure it will improve the surrounding area which the council are keen to update and protect.

The authority told the Telegraph and Argus: "The proposed boundary fence and access gates are considered to relate satisfactorily to the site, nearby grade II-listed buildings and the character of the surrounding area."

Bradford is home to a host of listed buildings including the city's town hall which has sat in the heart of the Yorkshire area since 1873.
