A gap in security fencing in the West Bank, in the Middle East, may have enabled Palestinian terrorists charged with murdering an American tourist to gain entry to Israel, it has been claimed.
According to Haaretz.com, the 13-strong terrorist cell, all of whom were arrested at the Hebron Hills, near Jerusalem, on Wednesday (January 26th), may have first gained entry to the country by exploiting the 12 kilometre hole, which runs from southern Jerusalem to the village of Jaba.
Four members of the cell have been charged with the murder of an American tourist, Christine Logan, and for the attempted murder of her friend, Susan Kaye Wilson, jta.org says.
The pair were on a hiking trip at archaeological site Khirbet Hanut when they were attacked on December 18th.
According to Haaretz.com, there has been a delay in completing the security fencing at this area because of a petition from Palestinians who say they will be penned in if construction goes ahead.
However, Shaul Arieli, an expert on fencing from the Council for Peace and Security, said if the Israeli state wanted to build a fence in the area, it could do so easily, Haaretz.com reported.
