A group of Thurrock residents have said a plan to replace the security fencing protecting their flats is ridiculous - because the current fencing is "perfectly good" as it is.
According to the Thurrock Gazette, the Newton Road, Tilbury residents feel the £4,000 proposal should be abandoned with the money spent on something more worthwhile.
Thurrock Council wants to replace the current security fencing with a 'weldmesh' fence because the original one was put up without planning permission.
But people living at the complex, called Crown Court, are against the idea.
94-year-old Elisabeth Webster told the newspaper: "The fence protects my flat well and it was put up three years ago because people kept knocking on my windows in the middle of the night and kicking footballs against the walls."
"If the plans go ahead I will have no privacy as the fence will be right next to my window. The current one is perfectly good."
Her neighbour, Robert Baker, 81, said he looked at the fence every day and did not find it offensive.
"In a time when the council is cutting everything I find it amazing how this amount of money can be spent on a fence. It is ludicrous."
Thurrock Council said a complaint had been submitted about the fence when it was discovered planning permission had not been sought.
