Security fencing up for Sir Bobby Robson memorial garden

Security fencing up for Sir Bobby Robson memorial garden
Security fencing has been erected around the site that will become a memorial garden dedicated to football legend Sir Bobby Robson.

The adored Sir Bobby died at the age of 76 in July last year after suffering from cancer for several years.

Security fencing has gone up on land close to Newcastle's Chinese Arch, near to St James' Park, the Evening Chronicle reports.

It is expected that the preparatory work will last for six weeks with the garden being complete by spring 2011.

Newcastle City Council, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and NE1Ltd have being working on the project.

One of the proposed designs for the garden includes stone plinths that feature images from Sir Bobby's life and career.

The newspaper quoted Lady Robson, Sir Bobby's widow, as saying that the council had approached her some months ago about the memorial.

"We were very touched by the proposal and now the timing feels right.

"I'm sure Bob would have approved of it too, and its location, sitting in the shadow of St James' Park in the heart of the city, is very appropriate," she was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

During a phenomenal coaching career, Sir Bobby managed Ipswich, Barcelona and Newcastle United, and guided England to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800257356-ADNFCR
