Security fencing goes up in hospice development

Security fencing goes up in hospice development
Security fencing has been erected around the new site of a hospice in Eastbourne.

The security fencing is being put up near Cross Levels Way in preparation of construction work which begins next month, reported the Eastbourne Herald.

Staff at St Wilfrid's Hospice are hoping that the development goes as planned and that they are able to move into their new 20-bed inpatient facility and training centre as soon as possible to begin preparation for their 30th anniversary in November 2013.

Kara Bishop, chief executive of St Wilfrid's, said: "I'm delighted that finally we can start to bring the new hospice plans to reality. There is a desperate need for hospice facilities in this area as we have half as many hospice beds as the national average."

The new hospice will be able to cater for more people in the community who will need access to the services.

The first modern hospice was established in the UK in 1967. There are now 217 hospice and palliative care inpatient units across the country.
