Middlesbrough FC to install giant TV screen at the Riverside

Middlesbrough FC to install giant TV screen at the Riverside
Middlesbrough FC have announced that they will be installing a huge TV screen at the Riverside Stadium in time for the start of the 2013/14 season.

The club's shirt sponsors, Ramsdens, has lent its support to the state-of-the-art screen which will improve matchday experience for fans visiting the ground during the next campaign. Club officials confirmed that construction of the TV will take place during the close season and will sit in the South East Corner of the stadium. Measuring at 51 square metres it will feature match highlights, team news, announcements, pre-match entertainment and advertisements throughout the game.

Boro stated that the Ramsdens-branded screen by installed by ADI, which is one of the leading companies when its comes to LED screen technology. It has carried out similar jobs at a host of Premier League grounds and at other major sporting venues such as Wembley and Twickenham. It is part of a significant move by Middlesbrough to improve atmosphere at the Riverside that will incorporate a new Family Zone and home fans being allowed to occupy the South Stand which was previously designated for away supporters.

A number of top flight clubs have installed huge TV screens of late, neighbours Sunderland replaced their ageing scoreboards prior with LED screens prior to the 2012/13 season. While the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Reading and West Bromwich Albion have long had TVs installed in the their stadiums.

Stewart Smith, Ramsdens chairman and lifelong Middlesbrough supporter, said: "Having seen big screens in operation at a number of other grounds whilst watching Boro on their travels and enjoying the game more as a result, I approached the club to see if we could help get a TV screen installed at the Riverside."

Middlesbrough have had a disappointing season on the pitch, after showing early promise challenging for automatic promotion and then a play-off place the side slumped to a 16th place finish. They rounded off the campaign with a 2-0 defeat away at Sheffield Wednesday.
