A couple from Harwell have urged homeowners to be extra vigilant after their new caravan and workshop were hit by a mystery blaze.

The Oxford Times reported that the fire came on the same night that a woman's security fencing was also set alight. Two fire engines from nearby Didcot were called to the scene but the fire had already destroyed both caravan and workshop.

Paul Tredrea and fiancée Mandy Hutt watched as 15ft flames engulfed their possessions just 175ft from couple's home.

The blaze caused damage of up to £60,000 including the tools that were left in the workshop. Fire officers are classing the fire as one with "doubtful origin".

Mr Tredrea said: "We have lost a lot. Fortunately, being a reasonably sensible guy, I was fairly well insured, but we have got all the family over at Christmas and it does put a dampener on it."

Homeowners have also been urged to protect their property and take out the right home insurance policy in light of the recent turbulent weather.
