Crash barriers were used to ensure people's safety when Prince William and Kate Middleton returned to the university where they fell in love.
The soon-to-be-wed royal couple attended an event to mark the 600th anniversary of the University of St Andrews, the Daily Mail reports.
Excited well-wishers stood behind crash barriers to cheer the couple as they met with university officials.
St Andrews has announced it will create a scholarship in the couple's honour as a wedding gift.
Speaking on his first return to the university in six years, William said: "This is a very special moment for Catherine and me, it feels like coming home.
"Despite being one of Europe's leading research institutions, the third-oldest university in the English speaking world, and of course far and away the best university in the world, St Andrews still has that uncanny knack of feeling like home and so it must have done for generations of undergraduates before us."
William and Kate will marry at Westminster Abbey on April 29th, a bank holiday.
