The Essex town of Billericay is looking at whether to install security fencing after vandals targeted one of the area's beauty spots.

Around £4,000 of metal fencing is due to be erected at Lake Meadows after £25,000 worth of damage was caused in a series of attacks.

Echo-news.co.uk reports that a wire mesh was broken near the swimming pool, leading to officials announcing that a 1.8-metre-high fence will be put in its place.

Billericay town councillor Terry Gandy told the news provider that he is "very pleased" about the replacement fencing.

"You are never going to stop someone who is 100 per cent determined to get in and cause damage, but I am hopeful this new stronger metal fencing should make it harder for these people," he explained.

Vandalism to a playground in Chard could also lead to the installation of security fencing after the Upper Henson Park was hit by criminals.
