Construction firm leaders from all over the world are set to come together to learn about the benefits of building information modelling (BIM) this summer.
The 1st International Conference on BIM Methodology is due to be held in the northern Portuguese city of Oporto on June 20th and 21st. It will be focused entirely on how companies can use this construction technique to benefit their own specific projects in terms of improving efficiency and reducing costs. Officials explained that the overriding topic of the symposium will be 'A Paradigm Shift' which will bring together those business leaders which have significant experience working with BIM.
A host of companies have already been taking advantage of the 3D modelling tool as it allows them to create visualisations which can spot any potential problems that may arise during the construction phase. Contractors can expertly map out how the structure is going to be put together before a single brick is laid. Firms see this as being able to conserve valuable man hours as well preventing any overspend.
The technology is becoming increasingly popular on both sides of the Atlantic with the UK aiming to establish itself as a world leader in BIM while in the US, more and more companies are adopting the process. A recent McGraw-Hill Construction SmartMarket Report showed that BIM rates in the US had grown from 17 per cent in 2007 to 71 per cent in 2012 showing the increasing prominence of the tool.
Experts at the Portuguese event will share experiences, developments, trends and prospects within the BIM spectrum. Attendees will be able to gain valuable insight from a series of seminar sessions and presentations designed at establishing strategic connections between professionals from all over the globe.
It has been made possible through a partnership including the likes of BIMFórum Portugal, the Portuguese Technology Platform of Construction and the BIM Working Group and those looking to attend the event should submit an application by April 8th.
