A much-loved historic icon in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, has undergone a facelift after recent demand from the public.

The lych gate, which was originally used for carrying a coffin through before a service, at New Cemetery has been returned to its former glory following calls from nearby residents in St John's and the Bromsgrove Society.

Whilst many councils have been erecting security fencing, which many objectors have described as an "eyesore", in a bid to reduce the amount of anti-social behaviour around similar sites, Bromsgrove has decided to renovate its gate.

According to the Bromsgrove Advertiser, owners believe that the new gates attached to the structure, which prevent access to the site when closed, will ward off any potential vandals.

St John's councillor Rita Dent, told the source: "We are grateful to the district council for finding the money to renovate the gates which are a fitting addition to the cemetery."
