Residents in Cambridge are rejoicing after the council finally replaced stolen security bollards with a new gate.
It signals the end of a two-year battle between the residents of Clifton Road and boy racers around the area. Since a set of bollards were stolen three years ago tenants in the apartments on nearby Rustat Avenue have claimed that their street has been a hotspot for boy racers and "nuisance youths".
Cambridge News reported that Network Rail, whilst in the process of building a £16 million island platform at the city's train station, agreed to pay £1,500 for an iron gate to be installed on the street bringing mass relief to all concerned.
Lewis Herbert, councillor and member of Rustat Avenue Residents’ Association, told the source: "At last we can stop the outrageous behaviour down this dead end and also make the whole of Rustat Avenue more secure."
Elsewhere, artists in Barton are being urged to come forward to design a new gate commissioned by the town's Ropewalk art gallery.
