A 65-year-old street rep from Thurrock, Essex, has won his battle with the council to install security gates in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.
The Thurrock Gazette reported that John Noon has been campaigning for the council to install a set of gates at both ends of an alleyway in Tamarisk Road, South Ockenden, to stop people dealing drugs.
It is part of a similar scheme that has been used in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, which has also been implemented to reduce the amount of anti-social behaviour within the town.
Thurrock council has spent £3,000 installing the gates and Mr Noon has voiced his pleasure at the long-awaited decision.
He told the source: "This is a clear and present warning, and I hope it's an idea that takes off. I want to thank councillor Amanda Arnold and Andy Lawrence from the police, I couldn't have done this without them."
