Play area fencing has been installed at a long-awaited development in Chorley, giving local families somewhere for their children to play.

The site has been opened following a delay caused by house developer Taylor-Wimpey, which was obliged to create the play area as part of the new Gillibrand South Estate.

Councillor John Walker told the Lancashire Telegraph that though it has been a frustrating time for local people, it was important that "children have somewhere safe to play".

He told the news provider: "We had to wait until it had been installed and was up to standard before we took responsibility for it so that local taxpayers didn't have to foot the bill for repairs, particularly as there had been problems with flooding on the site."

Meanwhile, Malvern Town Council recently decided to put extra security fencing up in a local play area after the site had become a late-night social spot for youngsters.
