Councillors in Whitchurch are planning to install security bollards to reduce traffic in the town.

The Shropshire Star reported that many council figures were worried that there was a major safety risk with cars cutting into High Street and that it was only a matter of time before someone is injured or killed by dangerous driving.

Traffic is only supposed to use the road from Castle Hill towards High Street for access and making deliveries.

Plans to install security bollards have been accelerated after an elderly woman was clipped by a vehicle on Pepper Street.

Councillor Rob Hewson, deputy mayor of Whitchurch, told the source: "I've been fighting this for nearly 18 months and what I'm cross about now is that a lady got clipped by a car on Monday. Luckily she was not hurt but I fear next time somebody could be hurt or worse."

Business owners in Inverness are also calling for security barriers after a man drove his car over a wall and into the Caledonian Canal.
