A deer that became stuck in a set of metal railings in Curdworth, Warwickshire, has been freed.
Firefighters, local residents and an RSPCA officer worked tirelessly to free the startled Muntjac buck which had become trapped in the fence for several hours. When people arrived on the scene the animal looked exhausted from thrashing around in an attempt to free itself.
The deer had been out for a midnight snack when it came a cropper in the railings and when officers came to free it, it had already managed to get itself halfway through. RSPCA inspector Daniel Cole had to call on Warwickshire fire service for assistance after attempts to release it with a carjack failed.
Mr Cole said: "Many thanks go to officers from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue as their help was invaluable with this rescue. The deer was clearly distressed as he was making an alarming noise, screaming like a child."
Muntjac deer, believed to be introduced into Britain in 1900, are fairly common in southern England but have been deemed as pests by farmers.
