A farmer in East Anglia has been awarded the top prize in a national competition for his attractively-designed security fencing.

Gary Harrison, who owns a farm in Burnt Fen, entered the Fence Factor, which aims to celebrate Britain's greatest fences.

After his wife complained that she could not see the view of their land through their garden's 6ft fence, Mr Harrison used a pair of glass patio doors to allow his family to see through without compromising on security.

Although he claims he only entered The Fence Factor, organised by Local Traders.com, as a joke, Mr Harrison was recently named the proud recipient of the top prize.

"I work in the field next to my house most days and it makes a great sight," he told the East Anglian Daily Times.

"However, as my wife is just 5ft 3in a typical fence would’ve blocked her view, so I decided to come up with a solution."

Local Traders.com was accused by some of creating the "most boring competition ever", but the website points out that The Fence Factor attracted literally dozens of entries.
