Members of the emergency services climbed over security fencing to reach a man who had become trapped beneath a tree branch in Maidenhead.
According to the Maidenhead Advertiser, the man had been cutting the tree, in the Boulter's Lock area of the town, when he became trapped. He was under the branch for three hours in freezing temperatures.
Paramedics were assisted across a frozen river that separated them from the man by a local who helped them cross the water in his boat after smashing the ice.
The services then used a ladder to scale the fencing to reach the man, whom paramedics suspected had dislocated his shoulder.
"I have never responded to something like this before. I was concerned when I first arrived on the scene because I couldn't see a way across. The neighbour who helped was great," paramedic Neil Durrant told the newspaper.
Recently, warning signs were installed around frozen ponds in Carmarthenshire to warn people about the dangers of skating on frozen waters.
