Increased numbers of gate automation could be seen in Scotland after the National Housing Trust Initiative announced that it will be deliver new affordable homes.
The organisation says that contracts have already been signed for 100 new properties in the Highlands as private developers and councils fund projects together.
Furthermore, employment and the construction industry are both expected to benefit from the moves - with the first phase expected to generate around £100 million in investment, the BBC reports.
Alex Neil, infrastructure secretary, told the news provider that he is excited by developments in the area.
"I am delighted that our creative, innovative National Housing Trust funding model, the first of its kind in the UK, has borne fruit," he explained.
"It will deliver hundreds of new homes, secured for very little taxpayers' money, support jobs and stimulate construction in response to the recession."
Last month it was reported that new jobs would be created at Glasgow train stations as a new gate automation system is introduced.
