There are concerns about the condition of security fencing at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York, it has been reported.
Eyewitness News went up in its helicopter for an aerial view of the airport after a source gave it photographs showing the security fencing "in complete disrepair".
The news service reports that a least a quarter of the perimeter fence is down, leaving a hole right along a main runway.
It quoted a note from a Port Authority Police officer warning that "there is nothing to prevent a vessel or person" from getting on to the runway.
The broken fence has attracted the attention of Charles Schumer, a senior New York senator. He has called on the Department of Transportation's inspector general to investigate the matter.
"There are holes in the fence, the systems are not operating, and we're dealing with safety here, God forbid a terrorist gets on a runway of an airport," Mr Schumer was quoted by Eyewitness News as saying.
Last month, it was reported that the security fencing at Los Angeles International Airport is to be fortified and strengthened.
