Kier Partnership Homes has secured a key contract for a housing development in Birmingham worth £45 million.
The Egghill project will see the company build 400 new homes and a neighbourhood park around the Northfield area of the UK's second largest city. It signifies a major move to help improve housing facilities across the Midlands region and the latest phase of this initiative will stand to have a development value of £52 million. Kier is already in the process of constructing 58 properties in the 'Balaam Wood' area of the new site.
Phase three of the Egghill project will see Kier build 122 houses and flats for Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust (BMHT) with a further 278 two, three and four-bedroom houses that will be sold separately for external property investors. Balaam Wood was the first phase of the development of which Kier with BMHT, as well as the Homes and Communities Agency. It has been described as a showcase of exceptional design, space standards and energy efficiency and provides a key part of the regeneration of Egghill.
Chris King, Kier Partnership Homes managing director, said: "We are delighted to have been chosen by BMHT to continue our association with them on the latest phase of development planned for Egghill. We intend to build on the excellent service and value for money that our properties within the first phase of development at Tessall Lane represent."
Kier has stated that the new homes will be available for public and private sales and Egghill will become the first development that BMHT has offered to families and is a signal to encourage sustainable regeneration of the area.
It comes after Kier recently finished the installation of a number of solar panels on sheltered accommodation in Lincoln for the city's council. The move is designed to not only reduce the energy bills of the area but also attempt to cut down on the amount of carbon emissions generated by the city.
