Motorists who ignore parking barriers and place their car outside designated areas are being clamped down on by Lancashire County Council (LCC).
The council hopes that getting tough on poor parking will improve access to key areas, allowing pedestrians to move around more freely without having to navigate around cars.
Rules came into force on October 1st, but penalty charges will not begin until two weeks later so locals have time to become accustomed to the laws.
County councillor Tim Ashton, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "The reason we have parking enforcement is to keep traffic moving and improve safety and we believe these new powers will be welcomed by every road user who is frustrated by selfish and inconsiderate parking."
Vehicles which are found to obstruct roads by parking more than 50cm away from the kerb could be subject to a penalty notice, as could those parked on dropped kerbs.
A penalty notice charge currently stands at £70, but is reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days.
