Some pedestrian guardrails could be among the new features installed across Kendal's streets after the local council announced it would be spending £300,000 on improvements in the area.
In addition to walkways, cycle routes and traffic junctions are set to undergo refurbishment, while Highgate could also see widened footpaths under similar proposals, according to the Westmorland Gazette.
Some £310,000 will be spent on the Kendal plan by South Lakeland District Council (SLDC), while a further £100,000 could be invested by Cumbria County Council in Highgate.
Councillor Geoff Cook, chair of SLDCs South Lakeland Local Committee, explained to the news provider that the improvements follow feedback from local residents and companies.
"The county council understands that maintaining an efficient highways network is crucial in an area like South Lakeland which relies so heavily on its roads and transport," he said.
Pedestrian guardrails could also be needed in Warrenpoint when the Original Factory Shop opens next month.
