Weston-super-Mare will require new sports netting in the coming months after local officials were given the go-ahead to construct a new leisure centre.
The £50 million Leisuredome was given planning permission at the end of July but had to wait until secretary of state for communities and local government Eric Pickles' final say, reports constructionenquirer.com.
A gymnasium, indoor surfing centre and BMX skateboard park will be among the features at the site, which was formerly used by the RAF.
Clive Hamilton-Davies, director of Leisuredome UK, told the news provider that he and his team are "absolutely delighted" that it can now proceed.
He added: "We hope that the Leisuredome will provide tremendous benefits to residents, local businesses and the wider community and look forward to working in partnership with the local community to make Leisuredome a great success."
Last week it was reported that the Houghton Regis Leisure Centre will require thousands of pounds to replace out-of-date equipment.
