Parents can be safe in the knowledge that play area fencing has been installed as part of the redevelopment of a site in Hucknall.

The Albert Street play area, located next to Hucknall Leisure Centre, has been given a £50,000 makeover by Ashfield District Council so it can be used by local families and youngsters.

Aside from the play area fencing, a new climbing frame, net climber, cradle swings and a roundabout have also been installed.

The refurbishment has been completed as part of the council's bid to encourage more people in the area to become fit and healthy, reports the Hucknall Dispatch.

Plans for a second phase of improvements are also in place, which will see a play area being designed with infants and juniors in mind.

It was recently reported by the Burton Mail that East Staffordshire Borough Council had voted to increase the funding available for the development of outdoor children's spaces.
