All old equipment and play area fencing is to be torn down as a children's activity spot in Wickhambrook is set for £90,000 makeover.

The Haverhill Echo has reported that the existing equipment on the play area was no longer deemed safe.

Wickhambrook Parish Council has been trying to raise funds for a regeneration of the site and is hoping to hear if it was successful in securing a £10,000 grant from St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

In a report to the council the parish said: "The play area needed to be refurbished since the current play equipment has been in use for over 20 years and does not meet health and safety guidelines."

Councillor Derek Redhead has backed plans and now the parish hopes it will open the project up to larger grants Biffa and the Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Trust fund.

It comes after a residents group in Southampton has been given a £10,000 grant to makeover a play area in the town.
