Police in Lincolnshire have been helping allotment holders improve their security following a string of thefts.
According to the Lincolnshire Echo, people who use the Boultham Glebe allotments, in Lincoln, have had tools and food stolen regularly.
To combat the problem, police community support officers visited the site this week to give gardeners alarms and pens with which to mark their property.
"We wanted to take some sort of positive action with regards to the recent thefts," PCSO Matt Flack told the newspaper.
There will also be regular police patrols, both in the day and at night.
John Foster, an allotment owner for 25 years, who had his shed burnt down, told the newspaper he was pleased with the alarms.
However, resident Betty Robinson, while welcoming the alarms, said security fencing was also needed.
"They are certainly a good deterrent, but we could do with help to get better fencing," she told the newspaper.
In August this year, the newspaper reported that it was thought adults were stealing English tomatoes from the allotment because they didn't want to pay for them.
