Premier Inn has become the most recognisable hotel chains in the UK and now it is looking to expand in the coming years.

Whitbread, the owners of the brand, announced that Premier Inn saw total sales increase by 12.2 per cent to £497.4 million in the first of the year. This has prompted plans for significant expansion with officials looking to add a further 110 hotels by 2016 taking the number to 750 and then to 830 in 2018.

Premier Inn currently boasts 53,039 rooms in the UK after opening a further 1,368 over the past year and is targeting to hit 65,000 in the next three years. The bold proposals have been helped by parent company Whitbread recording underlying profits of £195.7 million for its hotels and restaurants division, a 7.9 per cent increase, in the past six months.

Andy Harrison, chief executive, explained that not only would Premier Inn be increasing the number of locations but would also be introducing a new compact city centre hotel brand known as Hub. This will include 3,000 rooms and the first has already been planned for St Martin's Lane in the West End of London in summer 2014.

Mr Harrison noted that holidaymakers booking habits were changing with the Premierinn.com website accounting for 77 per cent of reservations. He added: "In both dynamic pricing and our website, we will continue to invest in technology, specialist teams and make further improvements in our customer relationship management capability to enhance the customer experience and grow revpar (revenue per available room)."

Premier Inn is the UK's largest hotel brand and has become highly successful thanks to the low cost of its rooms. Similar to the likes of Travelodge and Holiday Inn the brand is used by both business professionals and holidaymakers needing a cheap place to stay.ADNFCR-3337-ID-801652693-ADNFCR
