A primary school in Portishead has been forced to fix spikes to the metal gates at its entrance to stop youngsters climbing over them at night and causing trouble.
According to the Bristol Evening Post, youths have been getting into the nursery area at Trinity Primary School, riding around on bikes which are normally used by children.
In November, the newspaper said, vandals caused £1,000 of damage when they smashed up bollards.
The school already has security fencing and gates around the car park – but the gates have in the past been left open at night.
Talking to the newspaper about the problems, the school's site manager, Paul Wilson, said: "As a result we are increasing our anti-vandalism measures and this includes putting metal spikes on the top of the gates to stop people from climbing over. We're also now closing the gates to the car park at night."
"It is unfortunate as we don't want the school to look foreboding, but we feel as if we have little choice as we need to protect the property," he added.
Recently, Nicholson Pre-school, in Gosport, Hampshire, improved its security fencing after receiving a council grant.
