A children's play area support group that was told its equipment did not meet safety standards has improved its security fencing to bring the site up-to-date for a new year reopening.

The Friends of Bailey Park, formed two years ago to support the play area, has received a £128,000 grant, the South Wales Argus reports.

Monmouthshire County Council had said that existing equipment did not meet current safety standards.

After tireless work, the play area will reopen with improved facilities.

"It has a range of equipment from a see-saw to a multi-use unit, ground level trampoline and basket swing which can be used by those who are disabled," chair Catherine Jones told the newspaper.

"We hope it will bring more people to the park," she added.

The new security fencing will be installed in the coming weeks.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800200026-ADNFCR
