A man in Bexhill has become involved in a row over the height of the security fencing at his property.
David Hickman, 69, replaced his ageing 10ft high hedge with a 6ft fence, but soon received a letter from Rother District Council stating that it was too high and needed to be lowered, the Bexhill Observer reports.
However, even after cutting the security fencing's height in half and installing a trellis to protect his privacy, Mr Hickman was informed that it is still too high and has been advised to seek planning permission for the trellis.
"All the other fences are higher than mine. And the neighbours all love it too," he told the newspaper.
Planning enforcement officer Paul Casey said any fence over a metre high fronting a highway requires planning permission.
It follows news in the Waltham Forest Guardian that people in Highams Park are angry over plans to replace security fencing at the bottom of their gardens with a 6ft timber fence.
