Security fencing has gone up around an area of land to keep schoolchildren safe when out and about as a Suffolk school seeks to become a forest school.
The security fencing around a woodland area near Botesdale and Rickinghall Pre-School has created a safe space for children to engage in "back-to-nature" learning, reported the Diss Express.
Through various fundraising initiatives enacted by the school, donations and grants from Suffolk County Council and several parish councils, an allotment has been built, outdoor equipment purchased and all-weather outfits bought.
Ruth Clipperton, a playgroup worker, told the online news provider: "The outdoor environment can be very effective in a pupil’s development and general wellbeing, and as well as learning about things such as stingy nettles and insects, we also go on bear and Gruffalo hunts."
The idea for British forest schools originally comes from Sweden. A 13-month study in the country showed that children attending forest schools in a countryside environment were happier than their urban counterparts.
