Security fencing is being installed to help safeguard the future of a historic mining site in Wrexham.
The former rescue centre located on Maesgwyn Road has come under increased scrutiny after the owner, Neville Dickens, was fined £4,000 by the town's council after failing to notify the authority about demolition work in 2010.
Now, in a bid to repair the site, Wrexham's planning committee has installed a number of safety measures after there were reports of "significant damage" at the back of the site.
Lawrence Isted, the authority’s head of community wellbeing and development, told the Leader: "Further security measures have been put in place including additional security fencing to the rear of the building. The protective roof covering has been replaced, although additional battening has been requested to provide a more secure and durable covering."
The building has been looked after by a trust ever since the colliery shut in 1986 and has been used as a visitor's centre.
