A trust behind a project to reseed grass verges in Helston, Falmouth, says a recent incident with a car justifies its decision to install security fencing around the land.
Some quarters had criticised the decision to erect the fencing, which is scheduled to go up around grass plots on Meneage Street, because of costs, the Packet reports.
The trust's plan is to install fencing after work to reseed topsoil has been completed – to stop anyone damaging the ground.
And just a day after the work had finished, a car was spotted parked up on reseeded land – proving that security fencing will be a deterrent when it goes up.
"There has been some criticism of the necessity to spend charity funds on fencing off the areas of grass once all the driveways have been repaired," Keith Reynolds, chairman of the Helston Downsland Charity Trust, told the newspaper.
Discussing the photograph someone had taken of the car, Mr Reynolds said: "This picture was taken exactly one day after the grass had been restored with topsoil and had been reseeded.
"Needless to say, this area is scheduled to be fenced."
This month, Wokingham Council put forward plans to put up security fencing around an allotment in the town. There have been several break-ins at the site.
