Security fencing has been proposed as one way to separate sheep from people as a row over access to a meadow in Totnes escalates.
According thisissouthdevon.co.uk, the council-owned Castle Meadow is undergoing risk assessments to see if it would be possible to allow public access to the site while, at the same time, sheep graze it.
But town clerk David Edwards has warned that a plan to allow sheep to mix with people should not go ahead.
"My advice is that you do not mix people with sheep on the meadow. I would like that recorded," he was quoted by the news provider as saying.
The battle of the future of the estate has been going on for some time. Earlier this month the town council agreed to let sheep graze the site but have not yet decided whether to allow public access at the same time.
It will now be looked at whether putting up security fencing on the meadow in order to separate the animals from people could be possible.
According to an online petition calling for public access to be allowed, a survey undertaken in Totnes revealed a need for play areas, especially for younger children.
