Security fencing is to go up at the site of a former newspaper office after demolition of the existing building is complete in Scunthorpe.

Once the security fencing is up at the site on Doncaster Road, gates and security cameras will be added to provide effective monitoring, reported This is Scunthorpe.

Owners of the site are now looking to transform the space into "top-security" carpark.

The Hunt Group will be a welcome addition to the area in terms of boosting trade as well as providing invaluable space to motorists wanting to park their cars, especially when the new Bath Halls open in November.

Shaun Hunt, deputy chairman, said that the new facility would also benefit other late night spots including Henry's, The Light, The Britannia, Industry and Abacus.

Speaking to the newspaper, he said: "During daytime the offer of competitively priced parking should also help to encourage and revive shopping in the town centre."

A Leeds carpark recently revealed that it was costing £40,000 to run and only making £23,000, even after introducing charges and new security measures to reduce car crime, reported the Yorkshire Evening Post.
