Despite a successful crackdown on theft of heating oil in Soughton, Flintshire, the public are still being advised to consider security fencing around their fuel tanks to stop further incidents.
According to the Leader, Operation Latchkey has resulted in seven arrests with those yet to be caught being strongly pursued.
There has been a marked rise in oil theft in the area as the cost of fuel rises.
Soughton councillor Marion Bateman told the newspaper: "I'm pleased this operation has proved so successful. It shows that teamwork within the community and the police works. It is wonderful news."
Inspector Tony Wan advised both domestic and commercial premises to consider increasing their security measures.
"The price of fuel has risen significantly in recent months and we are advising owners to make their tanks more secure. People have a range of options, from installing locks and alarms to putting fencing up around the tank," Mr Wan told the newspaper.
This month, it was reported that there has been a spate of metal thefts in Burley. Businesses in the city may want to consider putting up security fencing to deter criminals.
