Buildings across the UK are set to get their own social networking site following the launch of a new campaign.

Honest Buildings, a US-based company, has created a LinkedIn-style database which will contain details of over 9,500 commercial buildings listed within the UK. The company currently connects decision makers to solutions providers all over the world and this latest network will allow contractors to meet with construction firms to help keep projects get underway. A number of major businesses such as Aviva Investors, British Land and Henderson Global Investors all signing up to the platform.

The UK has embarked on a number of major construction developments of late with the completion of the iconic Shard in London making the structure the tallest in the European Union when finished. However, this has since been overtaken by the Mercury City Tower in Moscow that was completed earlier this year. The social network is designed at bringing all these industry officials together to discuss new or ongoing projects.

Richard Hardy, managing director at BRE Global, has already backed the new initiative which will help to display a whole host of internationally recognised buildings that are all BREEAM rated.

"BREEAM is the most well established sustainable buildings standard, and the Honest Buildings partnership provides further recognition to the clients, developers and others to show major improvements in the sustainability performance of new and existing buildings," Mr Hardy added.

Honest Buildings' social network has already proved successful across the Atlantic when it was launched in New York in March 2012. From those modest beginnings, the site has been rapidly expanding to contain millions of buildings across the globe and connect tens of thousands of real estate firms and professionals from all over the world.

The UK version is set to help drive growth within the construction sector at a time when many firms are feeling the bite of the recession and major contracts have begun to dry up all across the nation.
