Play areas in Stanway, Essex, are set for grand openings after the town's parish council secured funding for renovation.

The authority in the area has already highlighted sites in Lucy Lane South and Silver Witch Green which are to be brought up to standard. Stanway parish council has received £7,500 for each renovation and it is hoped that this money will help create excellent facilities for local children.

Work at the Silver Witch Green site is already underway and is set to be finished by next week, weather permitting. The council has given no word yet of how it plans to celebrate the opening but many hope that it will replicate the festivities in South Shields when a play area was opened to what the Shields Gazette described as "much fanfare".

Laura Sykes, councillor, told the Daily Gazette: "We will have a grand opening and work will then begin at Lucy Lane South for the park to be revamped."
