Anger has been shown at a park in Walthamstow after steel gates were erected to mark the beginning of refurbishment work.

When completed, the £4.6 million project will see a new cafe, play area and gallery created to provide local families with the latest facilities to enjoy.

Around 200 people have continued using facilities, including the park and tennis courts that have been closed for improvement works, reports thisislocallondon.co.uk.

Adrian Stannard, of the Friends of Lloyd Park group, told the news provider that not enough has been done by the local council to ensure that people know that the park is closed.

"There's a few soppy A3 notices but what the council needs is some proper signs and information about what is going on," he explained.

"Sadly it reflects the council's whole approach. The plans have been changed slightly but they haven't answered any of our questions about it yet."

Potsmead will also see a new play area created over the coming months after the local council received a £5,000 grant.
