A Sutton park manager has vowed to stop joyriders ruining Cheam Park in the town by installing security bollards at the entrance.
Residents and dogwalkers complained to the council after cars raced around the park earlier in the month. It is suspected that the joyriders got in via an entrance near the newly-restored Cheam Park Lodge.
Witnesses said that the motorists had been scaring dogs and tearing up the fields in the park. Now, after surveying the damage, councillor Mary Burstow was pleased to hear the park manager would be installing a bollard to stop the problem.
She told Your Local Guardian: "Driving in the park last night not only caused damage to the ground, but it was also a dangerous and stupid thing to do. The entrance is one which would never occur to me that someone would try to drive up, it is just a footpath."
Elsewhere, residents in Kirkcaldy raised concerns after a number of new security bollards were damaged on the town's high street.
