Temporary security fencing will encircle derelict buildings in Rushden while they are readied for planned demolition.
According to the Evening Telegraph, the row of properties caught fire three years ago, raising fears of an asbestos leak.
Now the buildings, which are believed to have been empty for at least ten years, have been scheduled for demolition.
Temporary security fencing will be erected around the site in preparation for the project, permission for which has been granted to Ashbridge Estates Limited.
"They're all in poor condition and were previously used as houses, shops, offices and workshops. They are beyond economic repair and a potential danger for children and squatters trespassing on the site," Ashbridge's Christopher Wilkins said in his application for demolition.
After asbestos is removed from the site security fencing will be installed, with the demolition forecast to start at the end of November.
A local councillor told the newspaper he was glad the buildings were going.
