Volunteers at a youth centre in Malvern, Worcestershire, are promising "ugly and intimidating" security fencing to be put up around the site.

The group that is taking over the facility recently won a 30-year lease from the county council and wants ensure the safety of the site for years to come. Malvern Community Collective (MCC) also wants to take over the green space next to it in a bid to create a hub for the town.

However, it has been met with opposition by the council, which wants to keep it as a place for future development.

Julian Roskams, of MCC, told the Malvern Gazette: "When we met the officers, they said the council now wants to put up much heavier fences around the centre than first planned. They will be much uglier and run straight across this green area in the centre of Malvern."

The MCC is following the example of the council in Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, which plans to install high security fencing around a cemetery to prevent vandalism.
