Residents in Whitley, Berkshire, are calling for a set of security bollards to be reinstalled following roadworks.

Southern Gas removed the posts when it was carrying out maintenance work on Corbridge Road, which runs through suburban neighbourhoods near to Reading, but neighbours have complained that drivers are parking on the grass verge due to the bollards' removal.

The company has apologised for causing problems and has vowed to reinstate the posts as soon as possible. It claims that it was unaware of the misery it was causing to residents in the area after the work was carried out earlier in the year.

Councillor Daisy Benson told Get Reading: "Reading Borough Council should have been much more robust in their discussions with Southern Gas from the start so that they not only completed the work they were contracted to do but also that they left the area the same way they found it."
