Wiltshire College has announced a significant expansion which will see the creation of a new campus in Chippenham.

The £21 million state-of-the-art building will be constructed on land behind the existing college buildings off Cocklebury Road. It will spread over 9,100 sq m serving the town of Chippenham and is designed to transform the future of learning in the area. Officials also believe that it will help to support economic growth for years to come. It has already gained the backing of Wiltshire Council and the Local Economic Partnership and Chippenham Vision.

Di Dale, principal and chief executive of Wiltshire College, explained that the expansion of the education facility will help to motivate students. This is just one of five strategic objectives which have contributed to supporting the college's vision for the future.

The head of the college added: "The Chippenham project represents the next stage in the transformation of Wiltshire College’s facilities across the county.

"This transformation programme has already delivered a state of the art Learning Resource Centre in our Trowbridge campus and work is underway on the new Construction Skills Centre also in Trowbridge which is due to open in September 2014."

The college will be kitted out with an array of new equipment including construction, engineering and motor vehicle workshops. Chippenham will be fitted with hair and beauty salons, music, media and art studios, a sports science lab, general teaching and IT classrooms as well as conference facilities and a Learning Resource Centre.

Officials believe that it will provide a huge boost for the town of Chippenham, giving the area a top class education facility which the next generation will be able to attend over the coming years. Work is to begin in the near future with completion earmarked for September 2015 to allow the first intake of students.
