Security fencing could be required in Worcester after vandals tore down wooden barriers put up across heathland to encourage wildlife growth.
Around £2,000 worth of damage was thought to have been done at Hartlebury Common, near Stourport, after criminals ripped up and cut through a number of barriers.
Worcestershire County Council had placed the fencing up as it removes scrub and trees to allow cattle grazing and encourage wildlife growth, reports Worcester News.
Councillor June Salter told the news provider that changes to the area were essential.
"We have watched the common change and it was turning to woodland so this work needed to be done," she explained.
"No one was more in favour of keeping the trees, but I have been convinced the council are doing the right thing. If they weren't I would be saying it."
Security fencing has already been installed in at Petersham Meadow in Sutton after cows were harmed in a dog attack last month.
