Traffic barriers on Tamar Bridge are to remain in operation as work is carried out in the area, despite the objections of motorists.

David List, general manager of the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee, explained that one of the lanes over the bridge was closed due to very specific work taking place.

He told the Plymouth Herald: "We don't believe the toll plaza is any kind of bottleneck to the system. There aren't long queues back from the toll plaza the queues are back off the bridge."

As a result, Mr List claimed that by removing the traffic barriers it would still not be possible to get any other vehicles through.

Furthermore, the toll booths are relied upon as a source of income for the maintenance of Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry.

Work on the bridge commenced on September 19th and is taking place daily between the hours of 07:00 and 23:00 BST.
